There is growing competition between the providers of fossil fuel energy -- oil, gas and coal -- on the one hand, and the providers of renewable energy sources -- solar, wind and hydropower -- on the other. The conversation among activists, industry, investors, policymakers and the public has centered on which of these many technologies are most sustainable in terms of climate impact, carbon emissions and environmental sustainability. All in the context of the transition to cleaner, greener energy.
As with many compelling issues confronting society, the key question is not whether there are problems, but what can be done to solve the problems. But the discussion does not end there. Vitally important to the matter of sustainability are the issues of energy independence, security, reliability and cost. And of course, the economic and social dimensions of the problem are all intrinsic to the discussion.
These and related issues are what we have termed "The Great Energy Debate." We believe it is among the most consequential matters of our time and the conversation we must have as a society if we are to develop rational, real-world solutions for a sustainable future.
The Great Energy Debate is complicated and complex. It is neither black not white, but several shades of gray. It is not bipolar but a spectrum of options, decisions and actions in a continuum of innovation and progress. It is nuanced with more variables than absolutes. Not just fossil fuels versus renewables. Not just Industry versus Environmentalists. Not just the U.S. versus the world. Not just Producers versus Consumers. Not just Climate Change versus Climate Denial. And not just Good versus Evil.
Society's mandate and momentous challenge is to bring reliable, independent, secure and sustainable energy to all, and bolster economic prosperity and environmental protection at the same time
The Great Energy Debate is not just Them versus Us. It is all of Us. Our mission is to provide information, intelligence and insight on the subject and we welcome your participation. Please join the conversation.
